My Problem with the “Community Forums” for IT Support

Forums can be a great place to connect with others that have similar interests and thinking. A lot of times, that can be a great tool to find out information you might not have known. I would say this is true for the most part except for in the IT realm.

What I have found as a trainer and a IT professional that has worked for Microsoft and other very large companies in the WORLD, is that you must fight EGO all the time from others that seem to lack the emotional intelligence to truly help rather than assist with their own narcissistic orgasm.

Here is an example:
Issue with Certification Renewal in Microsoft Learn – Microsoft Q&A

I posted this question in multiple forums on Microsoft so to get a wide coverage and hopefully get an answer or find others that have a similar issue. I was searching for like minded folks that hopefully could tell me there was glitch and things would work out.

Instead, I get Mr. Ego, looking to up his answer point value since saying he is a “Community Expert” is more important than anything. He implies he is annoyed and that I need to post in the other forums. You’ve obviously passed all the exams as an expert and know exactly how to post every thread in the Microsoft Forum that was ever logged..

Now when I went to the forum, it was not very organized (ya think Microsoft would do better), and wanted me to use tags to filter where the post was shown. Now again, I had went to the certification forum and posted there, but I needed to cast a wide net. Funny thing is that I did not get a proper tag for certification when I started typing in the field.

I am not sure if Microsoft Learn is trying to make the posts structure confusing. They’ve done some weird things since I have worked there, but to encourage egotistical folks to be “experts” is just wrong.

IF YOU EVER HAVE A QUESTION OR ISSUE THAT YOU THINK I CAN ASSIST WITH, I AM HAPPY TO HELP!

I don’t have all the answers, and it might take me a minute to get back to you, but I WILL NEVER say or imply, “Just go away, you annoy me!” by saying go to another forum to ask your question.
